Laneway Auckland

Laneway Festival Auckland Anniversary 1/02/2010

Holy shit i was lookin forward to this day so much, the big draw card for me being Dirty Three,The 3D's,Daniel Johnston,The XX and Echo and the Bunnymen. All the other bands were a big fat bonus.I'm not gonna go into detail about each band so all i can say was that Dirty Three were incredible(this was the fourth time I've seen them and still think they're one of the best live bands in the world),Daniel Johnston was amazing,The XX were really good, quite mellow but had a beautiful sound and looked good on stage(posers but good posers at that)and well yeah was everyone else were good.No disappointments on the music side,oh except when Cut of Your Hands came started playing during Daniel Johnston. There's definitely a few things the organizers are gonna sort out for next time ie.bigger beer area, more food and time schedules for the bands.
So really all in all this was an amazing day, can't wait till next yeah.

Yo La Tengo 8/02/2010

YO LA TENGO
I saw these guys quite a few years ago and all i could remember was that they were wikud so i was pretty stoked that i got a ticket to see them again, thought i was gonna miss them.
The venue changed from the Powerstation to the Transmission Room by request of Yo La Tengo which was fine by me cause it was my 1st time goin there.Transmission is a dark little dungeon of a venue that has really good sound and a descent amount of room(it was flooded at the entrance though).
I missed the support which was supposed to be David Kilgour but ended up being Bob Scott,he from The Clean and The Bats and many solo projects etc.
I arrived to their 1st song which was a nice noisy landscape of sound which went on for over 10mins,this was not the only long song of the night, there were a few more.I love these songs, dreamy, blissed out stuff yeah. They mixed it up as usual,Ira Kaplan goin from guitar to keyboards regularly and his wife Georgia Hubley on the drums and vocals, also James Mcnew on bass and vocals to all having a good play around.
To me this was one of those gigs i would've been bummed if I'd missed it.It was bloody awesome!
They finished of the show with a Clean cover sung by Bob Scott(check out the vid down there) and then doin there beautiful cover of the Chris Knox song 'Coloured',the 1st time they've played it live.
So yeah this was a very sweet as gig.
