Camera Obscura live at Monte Cristo Room 18/01/2010
With support from Family Cactus(who I missed) and English duo 'Slow Club'
Slow Club are a duo from Sheffield(maybe even a couple i dunno)who are Rebecca Taylor on drums and Charles Watson on guitar playing thrashy pop, rock, folky styles with a bit of humorous banter thrown in.I was glad I made it to see them, check their music out somewhere if you aint heard them yet, they're awesome.
Camera Obscura came on a little later,Monte Cristo was packed and eveyone seemed quite ready and buzzed. The six piece band played for about an hour, fulled their set with lots of moody yet soulful and upbeat 50s styles of music.Hard to explain really but the lead vocalist Traceyanne Campbells vocals were well beautiful.I don't know why but I started to get a wee bored(just a little),I think I was hangin out for French Navy which is their big hit song.
The band is very tight and they all know exactly what they;re doing.
So really to sum it up I actually enjoyed Slow Club more but Camera Obscura's Frnch Navy was also a highlight.

The Dodos live in Auckland 30/01/2010
Sorry it's been ages since the last post, way to long,so I'm gonna try do a catch up starting of with the Dodos.
The Dodos live at the Bacco Room
I saw these guys last time they were here not knowing that much about them and they were soo good that I had to see them again, and so I did.
They had good support with locals 'Spring Break' who is a solo project of Ryan Mcphun. He was pretty good,he seems to be gettin big ups more from overseas and not so much here tough. If ya like Animal Collective you might like Spring Break.I think I've got a vid somewhere,I'll put it up if I can find it.
So the Dodos....they came out so quietly that no one even noticed them on stage and started playing while everyone was still talking but eventually people noticed once he got a bit louder.Meric Long(singer/guitarist) has a lot of power behind his voice, not too overwhelming and his guitaring is beautiful.I was lucky to get a spot right next to him so I fully soaked in all his goodness and watch his fingers do the work on his well used beaten guitar.I love the Dodos, more live than their recordings though.
So yeah another wikud gig attenended
Heres some photos of Ryan...
and some Dodo photos....
Heres a couple vids of The Dodos.....
